which glue to use on EPO foam
« on: April 27, 2012, 08:44:57 AM »
Guys,

I finally got the Hobby King Bixler that was supposed to be ARF. Much to my surprise, it arrived in pieces instead of it glued together. So, I'm stuck with gluing it myself. I'm considering the following glues:

CA-Foam Safe Medium Thickness- Not my favorite because it leaves the foam feeling a little brittle
Gorilla Glue- I do not want to use it to glue the fuselage because it will expand and leave a mess
Shoo Goo- someone complained that this softened the Bixler's EPO foam
Amazing Goop- anyone have any idea about this? it's available at home depot.

Thanks in advance

Ca... 100% use CA. You will find not much else will stick to it well. Do not use kicker. I would not worry about brittleness. Hot glue also works wounders, it's just heavy. If your still worryed about the CA's ductility. I would use a CA ment for car tires. Has a rubber compound in it,leaving it a little flexable. BSI and mercury offer this. Hope this helps.

Jay is right, foam safe ca is probably the best choice.
I used epoxy to glue my Skywalker together, just make sure to sand the surfaces lightly first

Has anyone tried weldbond on it?  I have been doing like jay and yuv with 0 problems, but have been curious about the weldbond.
You can't be a real country unless you have a beer and an airline. It helps if you have some kind of a football team, or some nuclear weapons, but at the very least you need a beer.

Thanks all. Should I be a little lavish with the CA since it's the fuselage?

Don't go crazy, but make sure the entire surface is covered.

have you ever used Gorilla Glue before?
you can use it to glue the fuse, yes, but the glue does expand quite a bit so it may also get to places where you dont want it to be.
I suggest you take some scrap foam pieces and do a little experiment, notice how much glue you are using and notice how much it expands
that will give you an idea what will happen if you glue the fuse with GG
some people use it and are happy, some people hate it with a passion, lol

I ended up using CA foam safe glue and for the most part I am happy. But there are places still with a little  gap that the CA couldn't fill. I picked up a bottle for $8
